The overture Martenizza was originally called Festival Overture, and Swerts composed it on the occasion of a jubilee of the Leuven University Symphony Orchestra in 1993. During that period, he took part in a conductor competition in Katowice, Poland , and made new friends, including Ivo Stoykov from Bulgaria. At that time, they corresponded with each other, but that contact has since been lost. He was the one who sent Swerts a letter in the spring, with red and white ribbons; apparently, it was a custom to offer this to your close friends at the beginning of spring. Then you had to wait until you saw the first stork fly by, tie that rope to a branch, and make a wish. That habit is called Martenizza over there. That's how Swerts came to that name. In the meantime, there are versions of this popular work for wind orchestra, published by de Haske, as well as a four-hand piano version and a fanfare version, all three available from the same publisher. He recently made a fifth version for piano solo with strings, which is available here.

Only available in digital form, full set and parts, 170pp
